Here's the main reason Americans are struggling to save money: More than one in five working American adults, or 21 percent, don't set aside any of their annual income for short-term or long-term goals.

That's according to a new survey from Bankrate.com, which asked 1,000 of them how much of their annual income they save for retirement, emergencies and other financial goals.
